About the role
The APD Adjuster investigates and settles physical damage claims arising from rental vehicle accidents, including damage to the rental unit, third-party vehicles, and property. You determine coverage, liability and value, then close each file quickly, fairly and with clear documentation.
Who you are
- Excited about building a tech-driven claims organization
- Passionate about the customer experience
- You're empathetic and patient with everyone you interact with
- Driven by a sense of urgency (without working around the clock)
- Creative in finding the right resolution that serves the insured's best interest
- You're comfortable with conflict—see it as conversational, not adversarial
- Curious about the whole story so you can make the right decisions early
- Anti-status quo—you don't just wish things were different, you make them different
- A strong communicator
- You have a sense of humor (claims are hard enough as it is!)
What you'll do
- Open, investigate and manage a caseload of APD claims from first notice of loss to closure.
- Detailed coverage analysis, risk shifting, and policy investigation.
- Review rental agreements and program terms to confirm coverage, exclusions and deductibles.
- Contact renters, claimants, body shops and appraisers within required timeframes; take recorded or written statements.
- Evaluate damage through estimates, photos and appraisals; negotiate repair and total loss settlements.
- Determine liability and apportion fault using police reports, statements and physical evidence.
- Handle loss of use, towing, storage, diminished value and related expense claims.
- Identify subrogation and recovery opportunities and refer them with complete supporting documents.
- Flag potential fraud, injury exposure or litigation risk and escalate to the right adjuster or lead.
- Keep timely, accurate file notes and reserves; meet carrier and program service standards.
- Follow state regulations and client handling instructions on every file.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of auto physical damage or commercial auto claims experience.
- Working knowledge of vehicle repair, estimating and total loss valuation.
- Strong negotiation, written communication and time-management skills.
- Comfort with a high-volume, deadline-driven caseload and a claims system such as Glance or similar.
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree or AIC/CPCU progress preferred.
- Active adjuster license: resident-state license where available, otherwise a Designated Home State (DHS) license. Willing to obtain any additional required licenses within 60 days, including state testing.
Benefits
- Generous health-insurance package with nationwide coverage, vision, & dental
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching
- Competitive PTO policy – we want our employees fresh, healthy, happy, and energized!
- Generous family leave policy after 8 months of continuous work
- 100% remote (home-based) role designed to support your work-life balance
- Apple laptop, large second monitor, and other quality-of-life equipment you may want. Technology is something that should make your life easier, not harder!
Additionally, we will
- Listen to your feedback to enhance and improve upon the long-standing challenges of an adjuster and the claims role
- Work toward reducing and eliminating all the administrative work from an adjuster role
- Foster a culture of empathy, transparency, and empowerment in a remote-first environment
