Job DescriptionJob Description

  • A professional in this role manages post-charge-off accounts through the litigation process, including account documentation, attorney vendor oversight, legal workflow monitoring, judgment activity, settlements, and recalls. The position requires handling sensitive account conditions such as bankruptcy, military status, fraud, complaints, etc., while ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal policy requirements.
  • This role also coordinates with internal teams and external vendors, maintains accurate records, supports quality control, and escalates issues as needed. Strong attention to detail, excellent Microsoft suite skills, ability to complete complex tasks with minimal oversight and critical thinking skills. Experienced paralegal responsible for legal research, preparation of legal documents, file management and other assigned or routine tasks. Works under direct supervision using established principles, practices and procedures. Ability to determine and use appropriate internal and external resources.

Role Responsibilities

  • The Pre Charge-off Pre Litigation Collections process identifies, validates, and routes eligible delinquent accounts for specialized pre-litigation handling before charge-off.

  • Systemic scrubs identify consumer accounts that may qualify for pre-litigation review, including delinquent or Cease and Desist accounts generally 90 or more days past due. Exclusion criteria prevent inappropriate placement, including bankruptcy, SCRA, fraud, disputes, and other legal or operational exceptions. FICO and eligibility criteria help determine which accounts proceed to manual review. Accounts that meet exclusion rules are resolved, canceled, or prevented from moving forward through the workflow.

  • The Recovery Litigation Designee reviews accounts in CME and documents whether the account meets placement criteria. Review considerations include account note history, required account data, state-specific requirements, and hardship or cautionary indicators. Joint accounts may qualify if at least one account holder meets criteria, but accounts missing required information or documentation should not be placed. Ambiguous or exception-based cases require Department Manager or Team Manager review.

  • Accounts Not Meeting Criteria - Accounts that fail criteria are resolved as rejected. L2 aux code is applied for rejected outcomes. Permanently excluding criteria, such as deceased or nursing home indicators, result in Permanent Exclude status and L5 aux code. Reviewers complete only the required fields for rejected accounts.

  • Accounts Meeting Criteria - Reviewers approve or reject accounts based on documented criteria. Hardship indicators generally lead to rejection. Temporary cautionary indicators, such as natural disasters, may allow approval with a collection hold. Ambiguous cases are escalated to Recovery Litigation Management. L6 aux code triggers management review; L1 aux code moves the account to the Specialized Collections Team.

  • Revalidation Control - A systemic scrub identifies accounts scheduled for charge-off within 10 business days and creates a Revalidation Service Intent. The reviewer confirms whether the account remains eligible before charge-off. L3 aux code is used for approval; L4 aux code is used for rejection.
