About Euromonitor

Euromonitor International leads the world in data analytics and research into markets, industries, economies and consumers. We provide truly global insight and data on thousands of products and services; we are the first destination for organisations seeking growth. With our guidance, our clients can make bold, strategic decisions with confidence.

Overview of the role

Passport, Euromonitor's flagship platform, has just been rebuilt from the ground up. It is the largest technology investment in the company's history, and AI now sits at the core of the system.

Euromonitor is establishing an AI and Data Science team in India to be part of this journey. The remit is a framework driven, platform centric approach: the team builds the AI platform, reusable agents, skills and tooling that product teams use to engineer AI and Data Science capability into Passport and other customer offerings, including new products built on AI and agentic flows.

Based in Bengaluru and reporting to the Head of Engineering (AI and Data Science), this role is the technical anchor of the team: a hands-on lead who balances applied Data Science, modern AI engineering and backend platform craft in equal measure. You will set technical direction for the platform's components, lead their design and delivery, and stay close to the code. The measure of success is the same as for every role on this team: components adopted across product teams, not features shipped into a single product.

What you’ll do

Technical Leadership

  • Set the technical direction for platform components across retrieval, ranking, evaluation and agentic services, and own the design decisions that keep them coherent as one platform.

  • Lead design and code reviews, establish engineering standards, and mentor senior and associate engineers across the data science and backend disciplines the team combines.

  • Make build, buy or adopt decisions on frameworks and tooling, with explicit trade-offs on cost, lock-in and maintainability, documented at decision time.

Applied Data Science and AI

  • Guide the development of reusable ranking, personalisation and recommendation components from experimentation through to shared services with measurable quality baselines.

  • Own the technical quality of the evaluation harness: golden dataset methodology, LLM-as-judge calibration and regression gates that consuming teams trust.

  • Steer retrieval strategy across structured and unstructured data: chunking and indexing, hybrid search, reranking and embedding lifecycle.

Reusable Platform Services

  • Architect and build backend services and APIs for the AI platform as versioned, documented, multi-consumer services, including the agent framework and the skills and tool registry.

  • Ensure production readiness is designed in from the start: observability, cost and token telemetry, quality gates and Responsible AI controls.

  • Partner with Engineering, Architecture and Data Platform teams to keep the platform aligned with Euromonitor's cloud native architecture, and onboard consuming teams through reference implementations and paved road patterns.

Requirements

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • 10+ years in software engineering with substantial applied Data Science and AI experience, including time as a hands-on technical lead accountable for the designs of others as well as your own.

  • Balanced depth across the three disciplines this team combines: applied Machine Learning (ranking, recommendation or NLP, with the statistical grounding to design and interpret evaluations), modern Generative AI engineering, and backend service architecture.

  • A proven track record of designing reusable services, libraries or frameworks adopted by multiple teams, with evidence of that adoption and of the versioning and compatibility decisions you made along the way.

  • Hands-on depth in the Generative AI stack: RAG and retrieval systems; LLM orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex or Semantic Kernel (LangGraph and LangChain preferred); and vector or hybrid search such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Azure AI Search or pgvector (Elasticsearch preferred).

  • Production operations on a major cloud platform such as Azure, AWS or GCP with Kubernetes (Azure and AKS preferred), and strong Python plus at least one further backend language such as C#, Java or Go (C# and .NET preferred).

  • Experience leading design reviews and mentoring engineers, and the ability to explain technical approaches, trade-offs and limitations clearly to stakeholders; adoption of platform components depends on it.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with MCP or tool calling protocols, agent runtimes, or LLM gateway patterns such as routing, caching and fallback.

  • LLM-as-judge calibration, golden dataset methodology or online experimentation experience, including evaluation frameworks such as Ragas, DeepEval or promptfoo.

  • Model development experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow or scikit-learn, including training or fine tuning beyond API level usage of foundation models.

  • Exposure to adjacent agent ecosystems and platforms such as AutoGen, CrewAI, OpenAI Agents SDK, or MLOps tooling such as MLflow, Azure Machine Learning, SageMaker or Vertex AI.

  • Contribution to internal platforms, open source libraries or SDKs with real external consumers.

  • Background in market research, publishing, information services or another accuracy-sensitive domain.
